The final deadline is approaching for the Household Support Fund. Applications need to be with us by Sunday 17 December, and monies must be distributed by the end of March 2024.

Watch a short video explaining how you could use the Household Support Fund to support local communities.

The Household Support Fund has been essential in enabling charities and community organisations to support people facing acute hardship, hunger and unexpected additional costs.

Nowhere more so than in one of County Durham’s so-called ‘left behind neighbourhoods’ East Durham, where more than 3,000 households have received support from the HSF that we manage.

That’s 3,000 households who in many cases, will be in work and won’t be eligible for any other government support. Households who have continued to cut back as prices rise but who have nothing left in their budgets to cut.

Whether it’s buying baby milk for families where the main earner has lost their job, or parents who need help to buy a suitable winter coat for their child, the HSF has provided a safety net for thousands.

We’ve heard about recently bereaved families who are having to choose between paying for a funeral or paying for groceries, a choice which many of us will never face and these families shouldn’t have to either.

The Household Support Fund provides grants of up to £10,000 for local organisations to support households who require crisis support. The funding can be used to support households with essential costs related to energy, food and water, and with wider essential costs.
