The ‘Greener Communities’ fund has been allocated specifically to help communities become ‘greener’ through carbon reduction, environmental improvement and education.

Applications of up to £5,000 are welcomed from across Esh Construction’s operational areas for organisations that support local people and places to benefit one of the fund’s key themes:

Green Skills and Climate Resilience

  • Upskilling organisations to reduce carbon emissions
  • Install and retrofit greener technology
  • Being greener at home – i.e. reduced single-use plastics usage, encouraging recycling, reduced car usage
  • Education and accredited training programmes for service users relating to the above

Nature and Recovery

  • Improve green spaces and habitats – green related projects such as dementia garden or bringing land or water back to life
  • Rewilding

Who can apply?

Eligibility for fund will normally be restricted to the following areas across North East and Yorkshire, these include: Durham, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Darlington, Sheffield, Barnsley, York, Wakefield and Hull.

Projects outside of these areas may be eligible if it can be shown that they benefit local people from these areas.

Size of grants

Grant awards of between £2,000 and £5,000 will be considered.

When to apply?

Applications must be submitted by 11pm on Sunday, 17th July 2022. Groups will be informed of the outcome of their application no later than w/c 8th August 2022.
