County Durham Community Foundation was recently delighted to welcome over 100 charity and community groups to their first ever Funding surgery held on home turf!

The Community Foundation often goes out and about in the community across County Durham and Darlington to provide funding advice to voluntary and community groups, but recently decided to give them a chance to come and speak to staff on a one-to-one basis in Meadowfield where the grant-making charity is based.

The session which ran from 10:00am–4:00pm recently involved two presentations to the groups outlining the funding available and how groups could apply. This was a very successful event for the Community Foundation with over 60 local groups turning up to the morning session alone.

Margaret Vaughan, Chief Operating Officer said: “Following on from this, the Community Foundation has decided to make this a more regular event as the demand for funding in the County is obviously high, and groups need more support with the application process and understanding what the criteria is. There are also groups who don’t know about us and this is an excellent way of developing contacts.”

Carl Wilkinson from New Brancepeth Football Club said: “It was very helpful to speak to staff and find out what funding is available for our club. We have been in existence for over 40 years and we had never heard of the Community Foundation until today! After listening to their advice we will now be putting in an application and look forward to hopefully receiving the funding we need to keep moving forward.’’
