High Sheriff Robert Harle visits 'rookie' session at Brandon Boxing Club

High Sheriff think local club is a knockout.

The High Sheriff of Durham, Robert Harle, visited Brandon Boxing Club last week to find out more about the stellar group.

Robert, who lives in County Durham, spoke to founder Alex Oliver while the Thursday-night ‘rookie’ session for boys and girls aged five to eleven got underway.

The club attracts a huge number of children and young people and has trained champions like ‘Amazing’ Grace Kenny and Alfie ‘High Tower’ Murphy.

But discipline and effort are top of the bill, and while not everyone will win a meddle, all participants are encouraged to learn crucial life skills.

The High Sheriff of Durham, Robert Harle, said he was ‘very impressed’ with the club, and hopes to visit more groups in County Durham in the months to come.

Over the years the club has been awarded several grants through County Durham Community Foundation, including a £5,000 ‘golden buzzer’ grant at the Local Heroes Awards in 2019.
