Little ones enjoying the sensory den at Live Well North East, while mums attend a fitness class

Durham charity helps mums keep fit.

A Durham charity is offering free exercise classes and childcare for mums in County Durham.

Live Well North East is based in County Durham and delivers high quality support to families and young people in the North East.

Now the charity is holding free weekly exercise classes for mums who want to stay active and healthy whilst their young ones play.

Good Health and Well Being

Fitmums is a 25 minute high intensity workout suitable for all abilities. The class was designed for those who want to keep fit but struggle with childcare. While mums exercise, staff at the centre provide fun play sessions for their children in the centre’s sensory den.

Last week saw the first class take place with five new mums attending with their children.

One mum said: “This is just brilliant, I have been wanting to start exercise classes but I always have the children. This means I can exercise and my little one gets to play!”

After mum added: “My daughter loved it, she hasn’t stopped talking about the other babies the whole way home and cant wait to come back”.

Another added “My son loved it! He didn’t want to leave and can’t wait for more sessions to be added. Thanks so much, great idea.”

Reduced Inequalities

The classes will take place on a weekly basis at Sacriston Enterprise Workshops each Tuesday and Thursday from 9.15am to 10am.

Thanks to a grant of £1,370 from County Durham Community Foundation the Tuesday class will be fully funded and free to mums taking part.

Unlike the funded Tuesday, the Thursday session does have a cost, but the Live Well NE team welcome mums to get in touch if they want to attend and cost is an issue.
