The aim of the East Durham Learning Working Earning Programme is to support unemployed individuals aged 16-25 living in the East Durham area who have been offered employment linked to an apprenticeship or accredited work based learning but who, without financial support, would be unable to take up the offer. It also supports businesses with funding towards the costs associated with employing those individuals.

Employees may apply for support towards:

• Smart work clothes/uniform
• Essential Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Essential tools/equipment 
• Essential additional accredited training 
• Travel – to and from the place of work
• Childcare costs

Employers, who without financial support would not be in a position to employ an individual who meets the criteria above, may apply for:

• Up to 50% of salary costs once all other funding has been taken into consideration
• Public Liability Insurance –for businesses who are employing an individual for the first time and  where the insurance is not already in place
