Brandon Boxing Club fight back.
Brandon Boxing Club is a well known local hub for homegrown champions.
Back in March the club was welcoming 35 children each night to its popular classes. But in March, like many other clubs, it was forced to close when lockdown began.
Keeping in Touch
But the club wanted to stay in touch with its members. Knowing how key fitness is to well-being, the team hatched a plan. Coach Michelle Oliver set up a Facebook Group and provided free daily workouts for all to enjoy.
The club also provided equipment for those without. Outdoor workouts proved busy as soon as the team were allowed to offer them.
When restrictions started easing further, they prepared to reopen the building.
Alex Oliver, one of the founders, applied to County Durham Community Foundation for £1,000 to help meet new government guidelines.

On Sunday 26th July they were finally able to welcome members again.
The club have had to provide boxers with their own gloves and make sure parents drop off and pick up to reduce numbers.
They also allow 15 minutes in between each session, so everything can be cleaned and wiped down before the next session begins.
The gym is still not open to full capacity. Fitness classes are being taken outside on the green to allow more flexibility in the gym. But the team are just delighted to be back.
Alex Oliver said “It’s been great for us being able to reopen, getting all the members back together training and socialising again.
“The help from County Durham Community Foundation has enabled us to reopen with all the necessary measures in place set out by Sport England and England Boxing. I would like to mention our coach Phil ‘The Mauler’ Murray who has took the time to get the gym equipped and ready!
