New sails for local lad James.

A YOUNG sportsman will compete in the RS Feva World Championships, backed by a grant from the Foundation.

James, who started sailing at age five, will use the £1,000 grant to buy the sails he needs to compete at International level.

Over the past few years 13-year-old James has had many achievements, including being a finalist for the Panerai Challenger Trophy in 2019.

James wrote to thank the Foundation, after the grant was awarded from the Hylton House Trust.

He wrote: “My parents both work very hard to pay for my sport and this year I am competing in the RS Tera Nationals and Worlds and RS Feva National and World championships.

“This is expensive to enter and they have to pay for somewhere for us to stay as well. I am very grateful for everything they do.

“Sailing makes me so happy and lets me be myself and feel in control, and it is something I feel like I succeed in because it helps me try to control my ADHD, and that can be very hard.

“So from me and my parents, we send our huge thank you for helping us. I have attached a photo below of me sailing my boat, with my very happy face.”

James’s long term goal is to compete in the 2028 Olympics and we look forward to receiving more updates.

Good luck, James!
