The focus of the County Durham Relief in Need Fund is to relieve need, hardship, and distress by making welfare grants of up to £300 to individuals or families with children under 16-year-old or in full time education, who are experiencing extreme hardship and in need of essential domestic equipment, furniture, or other financial support. The client must be living in County Durham. 

Who can apply?

Applications are invited from frontline professionals working for registered charities, housing associations or public sector organisations, who are ideally placed to identify individuals most in need of support. The referring agency acts as the point of contact throughout the process. As well as submitting the application, the referring agency must receive the funds and supervise the spend.

What type of funding can you apply for?

  • Basic White Goods – fridge freezer, freestanding cooker, washing machine.
  • Basic household equipment – pans, kettle, iron.
  • Children’s equipment – cot, pushchair, bedding, bunk bed.
  • Furniture – wardrobes, single bed, storage, sofa.
  • Critical clothing – school uniforms.
  • Decorating materials – paint.
  • Warmer home and energy saving items – heated clothes airer, heated blanket, throws, energy. efficient heater & dehumidifier, basic air fryer.

Size of grant

The maximum grant size is £300.

When to apply?

Applications can be submitted at any time. There are no closing dates for applications.

We aim to let you know of our decision within six weeks from the date we receive a fully complete and eligible application.

If the fund has been fully awarded and we aren’t accepting anymore applications, this will be clearly detailed on our website.
