Every year, Darlington Building Society is committed to sharing 5% of its profits to a range of different good causes through their 5% Pledge Fund.  Applications are welcomed from across Darlington, Teesside, County Durham, Sunderland and parts of North Yorkshire. 

Up to £15,000 is available to support local projects around the following themes:

  • Mental Health and Wellbeing 
  • Unemployment and Skills Development 
  • Staying connected (loneliness) 
  • Financial capability  
  • Climate  
  • Poverty

Who can apply?

There are no limits to the size of organisation that can apply, however priority will go to those organisations that can evidence that they can deliver significant impact locally.  Geographically, the fund covers County Durham and Tees Valley.  

Typically, we award grants to:

  • voluntary-led organisations with charitable aims,
  • registered charities and charitable incorporated organisations (CIO)
  • social enterprises,
  • community interest companies (CIC),
  • companies limited by guarantee that have charitable aims

What type of funding can you apply for?

Examples of the types of projects and activities we will support are listed below but we will consider funding any activities that have clear community benefits and that meet our general criteria:

  • capital items, equipment (except vehicles or minibuses) for use in projects,
  • coaching or training activity,
  • project costs,
  • sessional costs
  • a contribution to core costs (including staff wages) where the income of the organisation is less than £100,000 per year
  • capacity building activities,
  • transport costs,
  • repair costs,
  • IT equipment limited to maximum £1,500.

Deadlines for applications:

Between Monday 13th June – Friday 19th August

Between Monday 19th September – Friday 25th November
