Endowment funds

Endowment funds are long-term investments. Your money is invested within our overall portfolio, and the income generated from the investment (plus any capital growth in line with our policy) is available to award in grants each year.

The amount available for grant making will typically be around 5% of the value of the fund, as determined by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

The minimum value of an endowment fund is £25,000. This could be given as a one-off payment, or it could be:

  • built up over a number of years
  • given as a gift in your Will, or another form of gift such a transfer of shares
  • started with as little as £70 per month, with one of our Acorn Funds

Fees: County Durham Community Foundation makes an annual charge of 1.5%, which covers investment management, grant making and administration. We also retain any short-term interest on unspent balances.
