Leave a gift in your Will

Leaving a gift to charity in your Will is an amazing way for your generosity to last beyond your own lifetime. Creating a named fund with the County Durham Community Foundation through a legacy is a simple way to leave money to the community in which you may have lived and worked for many years.

All grants given will be in the name of your fund, making this a great way to ensure that your family name is continued for many years to come. You can choose the causes or the geographical areas you want to support, leaving us to carry out your wishes. Alternatively you can leave us to choose how the money is used, safe in the knowledge that your fund will support only the most deserving local causes. We can also involve members of your family in deciding who receives grants from your fund, if you wish.

All legacies left to County Durham Community Foundation are exempt from Inheritance Tax, saving your estate up to 40% in tax.

We have a simple agreement that outlines how the fund will operate, which we agree with you and/or your solicitor. Because there are no lengthy legal responsibilities to consider, there is no need for large solicitors’ bills. Just tell your solicitor that you’re interested in leaving a legacy to County Durham Community Foundation, and what you’d like us to do with it, for example “Create an Endowment Fund to support children and young people in Easington.”

By choosing an Endowment fund you can ensure that your legacy will help future generations to achieve their potential.

Here is a summary of the different types of legacy an individual could leave.
