REDIRECTING WINTER FUEL PAYMENTS TO THOSE WHO NEED IT MOST

Surviving Winter Campaign LEAFLET
Surviving Winter
Last year, we experienced one of the worst winters in decades and this year is already forecast to be even more severe.
During the winter months in County Durham & Darlington, an additional 400 vulnerable people die as a result of the cold and poor living conditions, with over 58,000 households in fuel poverty. In the more rural areas, such as Wear Valley & Teesdale, almost 50% of households are affected.
As part of a UK-wide appeal, ‘Surviving Winter’, County Durham Community Foundation aims to help thousands of people who suffer as a result of the cold weather. This includes the elderly, those with disabilities, families with small children living in fuel poverty and the homeless.
Grant Making
The money raised by the Appeal will be used to support older and vulnerable people across County Durham & Darlington through the winter months. This will be achieved in three main ways:
1. Groups
Grants will be awarded to community and voluntary groups that run winter programmes for the elderly and vulnerable including additional food, equipment and transport.
2. Individuals
Grants will also be awarded to those in fuel poverty to help them purchase any of our top ten energy efficient household items.
3. Infrastructure Organisations
County Durham Community Foundation will be working in partnership with infrastructure organisations (such as NEA & AGE UK), to provide workshops to older and vulnerable people in order to help them out of fuel poverty in the long term.
To apply for a grant please select either Group or Individual Application form from the menu on the left.
