International Conference Visits Beamish

23 June 2011

The bi-annual conference for the Community Foundation Network held their second evening event at Beamish Museum for 250 delegates and guests, hosted by County Durham Community Foundation and supported by Rathbones.

The three day conference has been a joint initiative with the other two North East Community Foundations, with the main conference event being held at the Business Campus of Northumbria University. Although the main management of the conference has been carried out by CFN – the membership organisation for community foundations nationally, the three North Eastern community foundations have played a major part in providing local knowledge, contacts and liaison.

The event at Beamish Museum allowed the delegates to see exhibits and taste typical ‘dishes of the day’, whilst being entertained by the Riverside Brass Band and the Durham Cathedral Choristers.

Of course, Sir Paul Nicholson, President of County Durham Community Foundation and Lord Lieutenant of the County, was on hand to provide a warm welcome to the guests. Sir Paul was recently awarded the KCVO in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

The conference was attended by community foundation executives and trustees from the UK, Europe and across the world. Show-casing Beamish was a great opportunity to highlight what is on offer in County Durham and hopefully attract those attending back in the future.
