County Durham Community Foundation undergoes major re-brand

27 January 2010

After many years of providing support for community groups and individuals in County Durham and Darlington, one of the County’s leading grant makers, County Durham Foundation has launched its new name and branding – a far cry from its previous image!

With the help of fund holders, grant recipients and other stakeholders, who participated in re-branding workshops to create a focus for the new branding, the charity has refreshed its image and added the word ‘Community’ into its title in order to align it with the growing Community Foundation movement across the world.

Whilst its name may not have changed much, the vibrant new ‘rubine red’ logo marks a significant change for the Foundation, which will celebrate its 15th anniversary this year.

Chief Executive Barbara Gubbins, said; “2010 will be our 15th Anniversary year and in this time we have managed to give out over £15million in grants for local community groups and individuals. This is all thanks to the businesses, families, individuals, trusts and public bodies who set up funds with us in support of their own communities. I truly believe we live in a very generous county indeed.”

Foundation Chairman Mark I’Anson, added; “The launch of our new branding, which is much more reflective of what we do, marks the beginning of a new era for the Foundation and I have no doubt that the next 15 years will be even more successful for us and the County.”

The branding was created by Newcastle based integrated communications agency Gardiner Richardson, who donated part of their time to the project free of charge.

Director of Gardiner Richardson, Darren Richardson, said; “The common theme emerging from the workshops was that stakeholders wanted the identity to be down to earth and personal.

“The new look is a complete departure for the organisation, but everyone seems to have connected with it. It feels very confident, yet down to earth and friendly. It also has a personal quality to it which feels quite informal. Most importantly the new look and the tagline ‘Growing through Giving’ reflect County Durham Foundation’s passion and commitment to grow the fund for the greater good of the local community.”

The new branding was launched at an event which was sponsored by Darlington-based accountants and business advisers, Clive Owen & Co LLP.

Tony Luckett, Partner at Clive Owen & Co LLP said: "We were pleased to be able to support the County Durham Community Foundation in celebrating their 15th anniversary year. The foundation has done some fantastic work in the community over this time and we are proud to be their business advisers. We all enjoyed a wonderful festive evening and it was great to meet the people who have set up the community funds which make County Durham Community Foundation so successful.”

Despite the change of image, County Durham Community Foundation continues to provide the same funding streams and services as before. It is also currently offering local businesses the opportunity to double the money they have available for charitable giving in the community through the Grassroots Endowment Challenge, something that has already been taken up by Darlington Building Society, Cestria Community Housing and PricewaterhouseCoopers amongst others.
