BHP Law sends local Scout Group on Summer Camp

15 July 2011

The 5th Darlington Scout Group has been awarded the first grant from BHP Law’s new Grassroots Endowment Fund, sending them on a Summer Camp to Thornthwaite Activity Centre.

BHP Law set up an Endowment Fund at County Durham Community Foundation during the Government’s Grassroots Endowment Match Challenge through which they received a £ for £ match on their charitable donation. The fund is available for small local grassroots community groups within Darlington, particularly those based around sport and leisure activities.

The 5th Darlington Scout Group has just been awarded the first grant from the new BHP Law Grassroots Endowment Fund. The grant provided a contribution towards the group’s annual summer camp to the Thornthwaite Activity Centre.

Twenty-two young people will attend the summer camp and will have the opportunity to take part in various adventurous activities including archery, climbing and go karting. Without the funding from BHP Law many of these young people would not have had the opportunity to take part in these activities which are designed to increase independence and develop social skills and self-esteem.

If anyone would like to apply for a grant from the BHP Law Grassroots Endowment Fund, or any other of the Community Foundation’s 140 funds, they can do so by visiting www.cdcf.org.uk.
