Woodham Warriors American Football Club

Woodham Warriors was set up to give local young people the opportunity to learn and participate in a completely new sport. Through participation the young people learn a new sport, develop new skills and grow personal traits such as self discipline, sportsmanship teamwork, confidence, respect and thought for others.

As the game is played using the flag method and not direct contact, children from primary school age upwards are able to participate. Children and young people are involved in the decision making process via a player and coach committee. The Warriors, who play on fields in Newton Aycliffe, wanted to expand the existing programme to other areas within the local community.

Woodham Warriors were awarded £6,650 to help expand the programme, making it accessible to more children and young people. The grant helped with transport, kit and registration fees to the British Youth American Football Association.

The head coach, Jon Tait, was very pleased to receive the grant and said “The young people are extremely grateful and would like to pass on their sincere appreciation”.
