Tudhoe Cricket Club

Tudhoe Cricket Club

Tudhoe Cricket Club is a member of the Durham County League and the Sedgefield Borough Cricket Development Group, and is also affiliated with the Durham Cricket Board. The club runs six teams – under 11’s, under 13’s, under 15’s, under 18’s and a first and second senior team – and currently has around 200 members, varying in age from 5 years old to 65+ years old. Sixth form students with a range of disabilities and learning difficulties from the local special needs school, come to the ground on a weekly basis to assist volunteers, gaining valuable life skills in the process.

The Club is currently in need of new sight screens, as the ones they are currently using are over twenty years old, are made of corrugated metal and pose a health and safety risk to members. In addition to this, the Club has no wicket covers for the ground, meaning they regularly have to cancel games due to a waterlogged ground.

The Club has looked into the purchasing of cheaper sight screens, but know from another cricket club that they blow over easily in high winds. They have found quotes for sight screens and wicket covers, and found the prices to be reasonable. If these items were to be purchased, the Club would be able to host games in the wet weather rather than cancelling them, which would increase their revenue and also the engagement of the local community.

Tudhoe Cricket Club received a grant of £91.00 from the Sports Endowment Fund, alongside funding from the Healthier Durham Fund and the Community Action Fund.
