Teesdale Disability Access Forum

TDAC Armchair Exercise

Based in one of the County’s most rural communities, as well as an area with extremely high levels of multiple sclerosis, Teesdale Disability Access Forum aims to improve the quality of life for people living in Teesdale with a disability. Following a huge demand from elderly and disabled individuals wanting to stay fit but being unable to take part in normal exercise classes, the Forum has launched a weekly armchair exercise class. A grant of £2,000 from the Healthier Durham Fund pays for a specialist instructor trained in armchair exercise to lead a one hour class each week. Since attending the classes, users have seen huge improvements to their physical mobility as well as their confidence and self-esteem. One member had no movement in his upper body before going to the classes but he can now lift his arms right above his head!
