South Pelaw Residents' Association

Children and parents of South Pelaw Residents Association will be eating well thanks to a grant from the Cestria Community Housing Fund to run a course on healthy eating.

The Residents Association was established to enhance the quality of life for all residents in the South Pelaw area of Chester-le-Street. Its main service is a Mother and Toddler group which parents/carers of the children attend. The toddler group also supports individuals with mental and physical disabilities.

Healthy eating is a rising issue and the Residents Association wanted to address the issue with parents and children through a healthy eating programme.

A grant of £1,400 was awarded to the group to help cover the running costs of the healthy eating programme. The toddler group has now replaced unhealthy snacks with a variety of different fruits and healthy snacks to encourage them to try new and healthy food.

Janet Ather, Secretary of the Residents Association, said: “Without Cestria’s help, we wouldn’t be able to run. We want to encourage children to eat well and give them a chance to try food they might not try at home, thank you.”
