Oxhill Youth Club

Oxhill Youth

Oxhill Youth Club is a registered charity that provides activities for young people in and around the Oxhill area in Derwentside. Over eighty young people are members of the Youth Club and pay a small subscription fee.

The Club provides a variety of activities for young people, from sports to the arts to Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards, the latter of which they recently became licenced to award. In order for the young people to achieve the Gold DoE Award, they must participate in a four night camping and three day hiking trip and participate in five days volunteering for a local charity or other good cause.

The Club is hoping to pay campsite fees, assessor fees, equipment, transport and food costs to cover the mandatory four nights of camping and three days of hiking that make up part of the Gold DoE Award. This will initially be for eight young people. The equipment, once used, would be kept at the club for later use in further Gold DoE Award hopefuls.

Oxhill Youth Club was awarded a grant of £1,500.00 from the Whitbread Endowment Fund, alongside funding from the Lendrum Family Grassroots Fund and the Tonks Family Fund.
