1st Burnmoor Scout Goup

Scout groups aim to contribute to the development of young people, helping them to reach their full potential and the 1st Burnmoor Scout Group is no different. The group encourages young people to act as responsible citizens supporting their local community. In order to achieve this, it provides young people with the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities exploring the outdoors and participating in team building activities.

The programme of activities on offer enables young people to train and participate in activities in partnership with adults, encouraging independence and providing them with the necessary skills to progress through adulthood.

1st Burnmoor Scout group needed some extra funding to enable them to go on a week’s camping trip to celebrate the scouting movement’s 80th anniversary. All of the children worked hard fund raising but needed to use this money to repair their headquarters so they needed a little extra help from County Durham Community Foundation to make the trip a reality.

The scouts were awarded £3,000 from the Healthier Durham Fund and CDCF's Community Action Fund to enable them to go on the week summer camp. In order to make the event a fun and educational experience, the group used the grant to provide a wide range of adventurous activities facilitated within a traditional camping environment in Keswick. The camp taught the scouts many new skills, which has further supported their independent development.
