Tackling the housing crisis

More and more families lack a secure or place fit to call home. Too few properties are being built, rental stock can be outdated and in poor condition and there’s a lack of support for the vulnerable. With the support of the UK Community Foundations, Nationwide Building Society is meeting this challenge head-on by supporting projects aimed at providing decent places to live in communities which need it most.

What we will fund
Projects need to either support existing living conditions, get people directly into an appropriate home, or indirectly contribute to these goals by challenging existing housing models.

Who can apply?
We’re inviting charities, social enterprises, not-for-profits and similar organisations to apply – either alone or as part of a joint bid. There are some exclusions, like political or profit-making activities and larger enterprises, these are explained fully in the eligibility criteria.

Applications for funding will open in July 2017 in northern England. Once assessed and longlisted by CDCF, applications will be shortlisted by a Community Board made up of Nationwide members, employees and housing experts. The final grants will then be awarded via a Nationwide member vote.

Groups who work in North and East Yorkshire, Cumbria, County Durham, Tees Valley, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear are all eligible to apply. Please see the programme criteria document for exact details on eligible locations and groups.
