County Durham & Darlington NHS Health Improvement Fund

Grant Range: Up to £10,000
Grant Duration: up to 12 months from grant award date
Closing Date: Sunday, July 15th 2018
Grant Award Date: Due to the number of applications received applicants should expect to hear by 31st August 2018.

The aim of the NHS Health Improvement Fund is to support general health and wellbeing projects that enhance the work of the NHS in County Durham and Darlington. It will consider funding work that is additional to that which would normally be expected to be provided from revenue-funded health and social care expenditure.


There are key health and wellbeing themes that the fund is looking to support. These can be found within the Health and Wellbeing Strategy for County Durham and/or Darlington. Any organisation applying to the Fund should demonstrate how their project and/or activities link with the Health and Wellbeing Strategy for County Durham or Darlington.

The following statements have been taken from the Health and Wellbeing Strategy for County Durham and Darlington:

  • Children and young people make healthy choices and have the best start in life
  • Reduce health inequalities and early deaths
  • Protect vulnerable people from harm
  • Improve the quality of life, independence, care and support for people with long term conditions
  • Improve mental health and wellbeing of the population
  • Support people to die in the place of their choice with the care and support they needImproving health life expectancy, mental wellbeing, reduce preventable illness

Please refer to the guidelines before submitting your application to ensure that you have provided all of the required information.

Eligible Organisations
The organisation does not have to be a registered charity but must have solely charitable aims.
Applications will be independently assessed by CDCF and put forward to a community panel made-up of health professionals.

The decisions made by the panel will be final and all applicants will be notified about the outcome of their grant application no later than 31st August 2018.

Successful applicants will be required to submit monitoring forms to show how funding has been used to the benefit of communities, and take part in any promotional and/or publicity material.

Please note that you if you held a grant in 2017 -2018 you will need to have submitted an end-of-grant report before you submit a new application to the Fund.
